How Much Will your new build, Conversion or Extension Cost?

When you are planning an extension, conversion or new build, the traditional process is to start with an architect. But with building cost spiralling since Covid, one thing that’s been striking is the amount of customers spending thousands of pounds on plans and planning and then getting builders to price the job and not being able to afford it. In one recent case a client had paid £8,000 on plans only to find the quotes for the build coming in at triple their budget. That’s why it makes sense to talk to us first.

We can help with those tricky, but fundamental questions – like ‘how much does an extension cost?’ and ‘how much will a new house cost to build?’

What makes our estimating service unique?

Most traditional building estimating services operate from architect’s plans. At DMB we offer an initial consultation where we will discuss your budget and your options. With our in-depth knowledge of building material costs, we can estimate the price and offer alternatives to suit your budget. You can then take these ideas to an architect, confident that when it comes to getting quotes for the build, it will be affordable.

How does the Estimating Service work?

We’ll have an on-site visit of around an hour during which we will discuss your ideas and your budget. We can also propose alternative options. Within ten working days we’ll provide you with an estimated costing, allowing you to see how much your dream would cost.

After the building costs, what are the next steps?

If the project then is deemed affordable we can point you in the right direction for plans, structural reports and everything else needed for planning / building control as appropriate. With our extensive contacts in the building trade we are able to put you in touch with trusted architects, structural engineers and other experts as required.

Do we need to get you to complete the build?

No. This is a completely separate service from our building services. You are free to get quotes from whoever you like after you have planning permission. Of course DMB Building Ltd would be delighted to work with you, but there’s no obligation to do so.

How much will this cost?

Fees start from £150 for a site visit + VAT and £40 an hour from then on. On average a general estimate would cost around £350 + VAT all-in before moving to the next steps. This is far more affordable than spending thousands of pounds just to find out your plans are too costly.
